AI Blog: DeepSeek Tour Part 3

Welcome back to our weekly AI blog.  Today, we start exploring some of the applications of DeepSeek.

Last week, we started looking at how to access and use DeepSeek.  Today, we’ll consider some of the ways DeepSeek can assist you.

Wording Assistance

As a reminder, DeepSeek can be accessed at https://www.deepseek.com/.  It can work as your secretarial assistant, not only in English and Chinese.  Just type using your preferred language, and the model will respond to you in the same language.  It can help summarise long emails or meeting transcripts, draft emails, write articles, and more.

The prompt can be edited by clicking the pencil icon next to the prompt box: DeepSeek will generate the response accordingly.

Below the response box, there are four [4] icons:

1. The first one is to copy the entire answer, and you can paste it anywhere you want while keeping formatting, such as bold text, intact
2. The second icon enables you to regenerate the response without retyping your question.  This is an especially useful feature if the initial answer is inaccurate or incomplete
3. Additionally, you can provide quick feedback by clicking the thumbs-up icon for favourable feedback
4. We cannot fathom what the final thumbs down icon is for (or perhaps we’re joking).

Mathematical Problem Solving

Most AI models have free versions.  There are multiple in-house tests, which test their respective capability with a mathematical problem, such as:

It requires a process of discovery and elimination (trial and error).  No free versions (ChatGPT, Gemini) were able to come up with any solutions.  Even specialised mathematical software such as Mathway and Symbolab struggled to find solutions.  However, DeepSeek, as a free service, could.

Ask DeepSeek a mathematical problem or upload a screenshot if the symbols are difficult to type.

DeepSeek can help you in many other areas, including creative content generation, coding support and tutorial guidance.  Beyond personal use, DeepSeek is making a significant impact across industries.  AI assistant services powered by DeepSeek are widely used in online shopping and customer support.  In China, some hospitals have integrated DeepSeek into their intranet to help doctors write prescriptions and allocate hospital beds, significantly improving efficiency and healthcare quality.
