AI Blog: Gemini Tour Part 2
14 February 2025
Welcome back to our AI blog. Today, we’ll take look at what the paid version of Gemini offers.

Last week we started looking at the free version of Gemini. Let’s now turn our attention to the paid version.
As a reminder, Gemini is Google’s AI chatbot, accessible at https://gemini.google.com/. In true AI fashion there are already additional models available to what we discussed last week, but what we’re interested in right now is what you get if you choose the Gemini Advanced model:

Clicking the Upgrade button here will take you to the Google One landing page, detailing what comes with this subscription and the price in your local currency. Essentially, the advertising advocates the introduction of built-in image generation and controllable text-to-speech capabilities, enabling image editing and localised artwork creation, amongst other benefits.

Gemini Advanced is available as part of the Google One AI Premium plan. This costs US$19.99 per month and offers priority access to new features (including their most capable AI models) and a one million token context window (meaning that Gemini will be able to process and understand significantly more information at a time). Note that this subscription also allows Gemini to be used in various Google applications including Gmail, Docs, Slides and Meet; a subscription to Google NotebookLM Plus; 2TB of storage on Google Drive and more.
It gets confusing, doesn’t it? Gemini 2.0 Flash and paid versions of ChatGPT are going head-to-head, and we think people will opt for one over the other depending upon personal preferences and the IT ecosystem(s) they use.
Clearly, Gemini 2.0 Flash will appeal those already fully invested in Google products such as Google Sheets, Google (search engine), Gmail, etc. ChatGPT is likewise embedded in Microsoft’s products like PowerPoint, Word and of course, Excel.
There are other differences though: to us, ChatGPT seems a little less formal and arguably, more discursive – but of course, this will depend upon the prompts employed. It’s horses for courses, of course!
