Final Friday Fix: April Challenge
28 April 2017
On the final Friday of each month, we’re going to set Excel for you to puzzle over so that you can get your “Excel fix”. Challenge your office colleagues to see who can solve the puzzle quickest. There’s no prizes at this stage, you’re playing for bragging rights only!
Are You in the Prime of Your Excel Knowledge?
A positive integer (whole number) is said to be prime if only two different numbers divide it: one and itself. This is why the number 1 isn’t prime (it has only one divisor).
The Challenge
Using Excel, can you create a formula, without using a user-defined function or VBA, that will determine whether a number is prime?
Sound easy? Some of you might think this is trivial and have a solution in seconds. We’re going to bet if you are one of those readers, you are probably wrong – but more about that next week. We’ll publish our suggested solution in Monday’s blog. Have a great weekend!
