September 30 marks Excel’s 30th birthday. Did you know Version 1.0 debuted for the Mac all those years ago? There’s probably a few financial analysts who weren’t even born back then (sigh…).

Whilst Excel was neither the first spreadsheet program nor the first spreadsheet program from Microsoft (anyone remember Multiplan?), it has certainly become the dominant player in the industry, used on 750 million desktops.

Dubbed by Forbes back in 2013 as “…the most dangerous software ever…”, raise a glass to celebrate all those late nights since 30 September 1985 you’ve been stuck in the office crunching numbers and remember to send a Microsoft celebratory vote of thanks today…
