Mac Excel Version 16 - Now Available for Insider Fast Participants
11 November 2017
No more version 15.xx for Mac users - Build 16.6 (171001) [not sure what happened to 16.1 to 16.5] has now arrived for the guinea pig / trailblazer brigade, usually referred to formally as "Insider Fast participants".
Not just in Excel, but also for PowerPoint and Word users, there are several new features (most of which we have reported previously):
- Real-time co-authoring and AutoSave for OneDrive and SharePoint files. This means that changes are automatically saved as you work, and when you co-author with others, you can see their changes as they work. It also means take extra care if you're prone to making mistakes!
- A new Share menu has been added to share files that are stored on OneDrive for Business or SharePoint
- PowerPoint QuickStarter is now on Mac. This assists the deck creation process by building a presentation outline to help you get started researching a topic of your choosing using Bing Knowledge Graph
- The Waterfall, Funnel, Histogram, Pareto, Box & Whisker, TreeMap and Sunburst charts are now all in Mac Excel to assist analyses of your financial, statistical and hierarchical data.
Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) has also been updated for all Mac users in Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Some additional methods, properties and objects available to Windows Office users will now work on Mac as well. But be advised: there are still differences between the Mac and Windows Object Model, so you will still see “not supported on this platform” for some elements.
